A mercury developing box for daguerreotypes. The side supports slide up to reduced the storage space required or down to elevate the box above the spirit burner. An amber glass window is set into the side. This is covered by one of the supports when the support is raised. Within the box a tray with wooden sides and a metal base holds the mercury within a shallow, central depression. This can slide out. Above this is a hinged piece of wood with a metal plate which holds the daguerreotype during development. This incorporates a simple, sliding metal hook for removing the plate. A hinged wooden lid sits on the top. A wooden slide covers the clear viewing window at the front.
