Label annotations: Mr. Philip Monson, Artist, in Daguerreotype, Collodion, and Talbotype. To see Daguerreotypes to the greatest advantage - if it be daylight, the observer should turn his back to the window, so that the light falls directly upon the Picture, which should be sloped forward. By Candlelight the Picture should be sloped forward, and the candle placed between the observer and the picture. On hanging Daguerreotypes - The Picture should if possible be placed in a strong light and rest upon hooks, with the top sloping forwards. It is not well to hang them in a room where the paper is light, as white reflected into a Daguerreotype prevents its being distinctly seen.
