Double sensitising box with two compartments. The liners are cast as a single of glazed ceramic with ground edges at the top. One has been repaired. This one has a manufacturer's mark 'VJ' on the bottom. They are each covered by their own sheet of ground glass held in a wood and metal frame. The wood forms a handle however, the sliders are very stiff and ill-fitting metal handles have been added to the wooden handles to make pening easier. The liners sit on the remains of four iron coiled springs to push the liners against the ground glass to ensure a good seal. Above all this sits a wooden slider to hold the 6½ x 4¾" plate being sensitised. The hinged lid covers this.
