Portrait of Mrs Sophia Hinde / A portrait of Mrs Sophia Hinde. She was married to Francis Hinde whose family established St Mary’s Silk Mills in Norwich in 1810; together they had three children, Mary, Sarah and Emma. Sophia is known to have travelled to London in around 1850 to have her ‘likeness’ taken for which she paid ten shillings (C. Wilkins-Jones and J. Benjafield in ‘A Period Eye, Photography Then and Now’, eds. Denyer and Moore 2003, p.49).
