Part of the Ellis group of daguerreotypes.
Landscape view of the bronze equestrian statue of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius on the Capitoline Hill, Rome. In the background part of the Capitoline Museum is seen. The ground floor is in shadow between the ionic columns. On the floor above are elaborate renaissance style windows with pilasters, three with a shell motif above, one larger window with a broken pediment, and balustrading in front. Above this the roof-line is visible, with balustrading and a series of classical statues. In the foreground, bollards protect the stone plinth on which the equestrian statue sits. A little sky can be seen at the top, and the angle of a roof to the left.
