Very early portrait from the earliest Richard Beard studio. This was taken in the month following the opening of the studio. Taken with Wolcott's reflecting camera (this used a curved mirror to focus the image rather than a lens). The mounting and frame are very much more elaborate than later photographs from Beard's studio. See also PBM.F.00030

Mit Beard in London beginnt in Europa die Periode der daguerreschen Ateliers, sein Etablissement war das erste professionelle Fotostudio auf dem Kontinent (März 1841). Er hatte das Patent zum Daguerreotypieren in England und eröffnete in rascher Folge eine Zahl von Ateliers.
