Beskrivelse
A short manual describing Frankensteins hydroelectric method of how to gild or silverplate metal objects cheaply, using very few instruments and little time. Written anonymously by Hans Thøger Wither, published and printed by his Publishing house in Christiania (Oslo). 14 pages
Full title:
In his introduction the author describes the early methods which exposed the operator to great health hazards with Mercury vapors being the most serious (p. 6) and mentions the first safer but rather complex method invented by Mr. Jacobi in St. Petersburg. The described Frankenteins hydroelectic method is the latest of simplifications developed in recent years (by 1843).
Note: Daguerre's invention of photography together with the invention of steam engine are hailed as the century's two most important technical advancements (p.7)
The author concludes the introduction by claiming that he had himself made practical experiments and can vouch for the method's credibility.
