An article in the Yorkshire Evening Post asked if Sarony worked in Thirsk in 1851 when he is shown on the census of that year, see http://www.harrogateadvertiser.co.uk/news/local/was-famous-photographer-resident-in-thirsk-in-1851-1-2680811 The answer is yes. The printed sheet found with this daguerreotype advertises Sarony's 'Photographic Portrait Rooms, near the Three Tuns Hotel, Thirsk. The other side of the sheet gives advice on what to wear when having your portrait taken.

An itinerant daguerreotypist until 1857 when he set up a permanent studio in Scarborough.
Der aus Quebec gebürtige Oliver Sarony, älterer Bruder des in den USA berühmt gewordenen Photographen Napoleon Sarony, erlernte die Daguerreotypie in New York, begann aber 1843 in Irland als Daguerreotypist zu arbeiten. Später zog es ihn als Wanderdaguerreotypist nach England, wo er schließlich in Scarborought sesshaft wurde. 1858 eröffnete er dort ein pompöses Atelier im Gainsborough House am Sarony Square. Hier sollte sich der eigenwillige und vom Geschäftsglück begleitete Sarony zu einem der bekanntesten Porträtphotographen des Vereinigten Königreiches entwickeln. Die Daguerreotypie dürfte noch aus Saronys Wanderjahren stammen, denn das Etui trägt keinen Hinweis auf das Etablissement in Scarborought.“ (Jochen Voigt: Spiegelbilder.
