Pompeii. The Basilica, seen from just beyond the Western side of the Forum. View of stone flooring (some stones are missing showing the ground beneath, with plants growing) from which arise a forest of columns. The two in the foreground are fluted, the upper parts missing. Beyond, on the right is a stone plinth, possibly an altar or statue base.. Three simple columns in the mid area are Doric (Roman Doric?), and many further columns visible beyond. There is a brick and rough stone structure on the left hand side. In the distance are spindly trees, and the slope of a hill rising to the right.
