Photographer Thomas Thurlow - In 1847 he acquired the license for Photography for the County of Suffolk which he practiced for a time. T Wharton case maker registered his ‘Design for a Miniature picture frame back’ with the certificate of registration on 23rd August 1841. This object is dated June 3rd , 1851 but on the backing the metal is embossed with 4 August 1841.

Embossed centrally on the brass backing of the casing is ' T.WHARTON, No 791, 4 AUGUST 1841'. There is an added paper backing linked to this object in blue ball point pen 'Note found in the back of the daguerreotype of the Old Suffolk beggar. June 3rd 1851' - and written in brown ink on a daguerrotype backing paper is 'Portrait of Thos Ryons Mendicant taken by T Thurlow, June 3rd 1851'. A paper label has been attached to the hanging ring and written in blue ball point pen is 'A Suffolk beggar who only begged from the clergy as he went from village to village'
Brass backing characteristic of T Wharton's patented style. The brass wraps around the edges of the glass. A modern copper hanging ring has been attached centrally to the top edge.
