Union case described by Paul K. Berg in Nineteenth Century Photographic Cases and Wall Frames, 2003, p. 181, n. 3-22
"GEOMETRIC'. In William S. Nolan online publication "Fixed in Time" - we can read about the A. Critchlow wompany: "Peck's competitor Alfred Critchlow founded the A. P.Critchlow Company in 1853. His case labels claimed his company to be “the original Inventors of the Composition or Union Case.” But Critchlow's patent, similarly to Peck's, does not make any claim to his originating the formula for the “union” of materials, merely patenting his “Embracing Riveted Hinges.” Cases by Critchlow & Co. can conveniently be dated to within a year by their patent dates..." Nolas dates 1856 cases bearing the type of label we find here.
