European Daguerreotype Association - EDA
We care about European photographic heritage
The "European Daguerreotype Association" (EDA) is a recently founded international – non-profit –association of photography enthusiasts, with special interest in history and art of the daguerreotype, the first photographic process since 1839. The founding of the association was part of the European funded "Daguerreobase" project to provide a sustainable digital platform of European daguerreotypes in public and private collections.
EDA will take care for the expansion and maintenance of "Daguerreobase", the only existing database of daguerreotypes as part of the visual European heritage.
Aggregation of new information on early history of photography, the enrichment of existing descriptions of daguerreotypes in public and private collections and the linking with other collections, museums, institutes and collectors, are the main tasks to build an authentic source for 19th century European photography heritage research.
EDA will encourage the study of the art of daguerreotype, including the preservation and conservation of the original objects, and his relation with other forms of 19th century photography.
We invite you to become a member of the EDA
EDA is offering access to a worldwide and growing network of curators, conservators, teachers, specialists, collectors and private owners.
With your support, EDA will become a strong and interactive community with an interest in the many different aspects of the use and practise of early photographic techniques and their expressions.
Members of the EDA will be permanently informed about upcoming events, exhibitions, new publications and activities concerning early photography and photo history.
EDA partners are offering assistance in organising workshops, publications, collection maintenance, education and teaching.
EDA will organise conferences, meetings and a special symposium or excursion each year, on different locations all over Europe. EDA is planning the first meeting in 2015 in Bry-sur-Marne, Paris.
Join us today!
All visitors of the Daguerreobase website have unlimited access to thousands of records of daguerreotypes, information on daguerreotypists and a large amount of historical literature related to the early period of photography. Collecting these data for the Daguerreobase project (November 2012 – April 2015) is partially funded by the European Commission.
However, we made a commitment to the EU and all our content providers, to keep this unique source of primary information accessible and growing after the completion of the Daguerreobase project. That is why we invite you to become part of a larger early photography community, to share interests, and to build with us on a sustainable association.
We are welcoming 'effective members' that will support the association in a more practical way, by cooperating with their knowledge and experience to strengthen and improve the organisation. Are you willing to spend some of your valuable time on a volunteer base?
